
Education Awards IODE Margaret Stokes Chapter
Elementary Awards:
History:
IODE recognizes the importance of the study of History in our lives and so we present an award each year to the student who achieves the highest standing.
Citizenship:
It is through the study of History that we become aware of our heritage and through
this knowledge comes a love of our country and good Canadian Citizens.
Stokes Award:
The IODE Margaret Stokes Chapter gives the Stokes award on behalf of the late Colonel Samuel Stokes, in memory of his wife and mother. This award is given each year to the most all around student in each of the four Petrolia Area elementary
schools. It is presented to the student who this year demonstrates excellence in all three areas of academics, athletics and extracurricular involvement at school.
Lambton Central Collegiate Awards:
The IODE Chapter of Petrolia has fundraised through butter tarts and apple pie sales to offer four outstanding awards presented annually at LCCVI.
Undergrad Awards (Grade 9-12)
Annually students who have shown excellence in Art, History, Law, and Geography are recognized with a monetary award and certificate. School staff select the recipients of these awards.
Graduate Awards:
There are two awards of $750 each to students who show financial need to pursue their post-secondary education.
The third award, the Dora MacFarlane Award, ($300) is offered for excellence in drama or music.
A fourth award of $1000, Dr. Philip Dee Award for Biological Sciences, is offered to a student pursuing a post-secondary program in the field of science. This award was initiated in 2008 by Margaret Dee, widow of Dr. Philip Dee, and is administered by the IODE Margaret Stokes Chapter in Petrolia.
CRITERIA FOR THE Dr. Philip Dee AWARD:
The award is given to a student graduating from LCCVI who:
APPLICATION PROCESS for ALL GRADUATE AWARDS:
Interested students who meet the criteria will notify the Student Awards Personnel at LCCVI or download the application form from this IODE website on the next page. The application form must be completed with proof of high academic standing (transcript) and acceptance to university or college. Please return all applications to LCCVI Student Services by June 30th.

- shows interest in biological sciences;
- obtains a high academic standing in biological sciences;
- is academically inclined;
- will be/is enrolled in a university biological science program;
- demonstrates financial need.
